Rachel and Will showed up to their engagement session in 100-degree heat with nothing but good attitudes and happy hearts, and that tells you everything you need to know about them. Pure joy from start to finish, I can’t wait to share this one with you!
We originally had this session scheduled for an earlier date, but it rained all day long and we decided to postpone. When we finally landed on a mid-July evening, the forecast had other plans again — over 100 degrees and a Canadian-sponsored air quality warning. Good people – sometimes you just gotta get it done! Rachel and Will showed up anyway, cheerful and ready, and I promised them it wouldn’t show in the pictures. I’ll let you be the judge, but I’m pretty confident you’d never guess we were absolutely cooked out there.
We had hoped to shoot at City Dock, which is currently under construction, so we pivoted to Acton’s Cove Waterfront Park — and I’m so glad we did. City Dock gets all the hype, but this tiny hidden pocket in downtown Annapolis felt like a prize for all our trouble. This little spot is a hidden gem in the truest sense. Brick pathways lined with mature trees, some of the most beautiful historic homes in Annapolis as your backdrop, and an unobstructed sailboat-dotted waterfront view. We cashed in on all the nautical charm with none of the construction equipment in the background – weeee!
Rachel wore the most perfect white sundress — effortlessly summery — and the two of them were exactly as relaxed and playful as I’d hoped. It was such a treat to photograph them in this special season of life – even if we needed frequent water breaks and toweling off. Love! It’s a steamy thing!
I cannot wait to see them again next May at Herrington on the Bay for their wedding. If their engagement session is any preview of what that day will feel like, we are in for something really special.
